Networking Services - WhatsUp!
The WhatsUp! application (WhatsUp Gold™) provides maps of our network and monitors network elements
and services on the network It can send reports on network status
and alerts to appropriate support staff when a network element or service
is down. Each report or alert activates a "notification action"
(a message via pager, e-mail, beeper, or Windows NT popup).
WhatsUp Gold™ supports ICMP, NetBIOS, IPX, and TCP/IP networks. WhatsUp
Gold monitors each of the elements in the network by polling (sending
requests to each element's address) and then tracks the responses, plus it
monitors TCP/IP services (such as HTTP, SMTP, POP3, DNS) by checking the
port on which the service is running.
