Laser Printing at UNCSN, UNO and UNK Data Centers
Due to the expiration at the end of June on our current contract for high-speed Laser printing hardware,
UNCSN has recently conducted a search & bid process for replacement hardware for our continued printing environment needs.
This involved the needs of our Administrative Systems clients here at the Lincoln data-center, as well as the UNO and UNK data-centers. After considerable time was spent analyzing and reviewing our current and anticipated printing needs and considering the significant budget
restrictions being experienced by the University system, we were able to develop a plan and an RFP for finding the equipment needed.
Once the bids were received and reviewed, a decision was made to replace our current equipment with 3 monochrome Laser printers,
( 1 each at the UNCSN, UNO & UNK data-centers), and 1 mid-sized color capable printer at the UNCSN data-center. Based on current and
expected declines in the overall printing workload environment and needing to address the budget issues of reduced operational costs,
we feel this is the best possible mix for handling our printing needs.
As a direct result of these changes and the need to continue to find ways to reduce our operational costs,
we have decided that we are no longer going to be able to offer a "Pink-Bar" printing format. The currently
offered Form definitions that utilize this "color-highlighting", will begin to be migrated to a "Grey-Bar"
format over the next several months, and will be completely eliminated by the time all of the current Xerox Laser printers
are taken out of service.
We regret any discomfort or inconvenience that this may cause our customers, but are very optimistic that this change should not result in any extreme difficulty.
Please relay this information to others in your departments/work areas, etc., who may be affected.
Thanks for your understanding, and please feel free to contact the UNCSN HelpDesk at 472-7373 if you have any questions.
