z800 Enterprise Server Performance Update
Since the implementation of the z800 Enterprise Server on May 24,
2002, the server appears to be delivering the processing power that was anticipated. Even though the z800 has been in production for only a few weeks,
our Student Information System has seen a substantial decrease in processing
time for batch production updates. These particular jobs execute on regular basis and are consistent in the amount of work they carry
out. For example, database reorganization jobs, that ran on
average 105 minutes on the R44 are running on average 50 minutes on the z800.
This is the same scenario we are seeing SAP z800 batch jobs and all other SAP
z800 types of work (dialogs, enclaves, etc), a 30% - 50% improvement.
Already requests to increase the Student Information System on-line
availability have been received due to the decrease in batch processing time.
From the Utilization Charts we can see a significant performance improvement,
since May 24th there has been nine 30 minute intervals that have hit 100%, on
the R44 this was a daily event.
As far as on-line activity is concerned we have not seen any significant CICS,
SAP DIALOG, TSO, POLYSERVER response time delays.
Because UN processing fluctuations (special processing like SAP upgrades)
have major influence on the processor, these usage spikes in turn provide
atypical performance results. As time and work load processes continue we will
be able to get a much better z800 performance picture.
