The Computer Associates' Easytrieve software product was used at the University for many years. The software provided fast ad hoc mainframe report production for administrative applications. The increased Computer Associates software costs associated with the move to the new mainframe hardware, use of other reporting tools and the decrease in Easytrieve usage precipitated its removal.

The Computer Associates software product Easytrieve is being deactivated on Tuesday, May 21. The IBM Migration Utility software product is used to continue to run Easytrieve syntax code. This allows the continued use of Easytrieve syntax code without rewriting the program. The Migration Utility software reads Easytrieve syntax code and translates it to Cobol code. The Cobol code can then be compiled and executed.

The IBM Migration Utility has been in use for several weeks. The campus application developers are using this utility to translate the production Easytrieve programs and continue to remove reliance on the Easytrieve software product. The production jobs are being migrated first and the ad hoc programs will be converted to use this IBM Migration Utility.
