Learn More About Microsoft Office 2007
The new 2007 Microsoft Office will help you simplify the challenges of today's workplace and get more out of the tools you use every day. It was built with feedback from customers to help make your work easier. Advanced tools and an intuitive new user interface make it easier for you to organize and analyze information, share ideas, create great-looking documents, and cut through unnecessary busywork.
This new version of Office may simplify the way you use Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Access, but it is a completely different look and feel and may take a while to adjust. Here are some resources to help you make the transition.
Training Materials:
- Microsoft has developed many materials to help you make the transition to Office 2007. These vary from videos and demo to interactive tutorials. An overview of the materials can be found by clicking here.
- Quick Reference Guides are available by clicking the following links:
Should I upgrade? Right now, there is no immediate need to upgrade. If you are a power user of any of these applications or want to use any of the advanced features, it may be worth your time to learn the new interface. If you don't use anything except for the basic features of Word, Excel and/or PowerPoint now, then you may not want to take the time to make the adjustment.
Ready to upgrade? Microsoft Office 2007 is available to install. Contact the your campus help desk if you need help.
If you have already upgraded, please be aware that the default file type is an xml-based file (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) type that is not compatible with older versions of the Office products. You will need to choose to save new documents as "Office 97-2003 Document" so that it is backwards-compatible. If you are opening an "old" document (Office 2003 or older) it will open in "Compatibility Mode" which may not have all of the features available in Office 2007, but when you save the original file again, it will retain the original file type (.doc, .xls. ppt, etc.).
If you have received a document that was created in one of the new file types and are unable to open it with your version of Office 2003, a plug-in is available that you can install to allow you to open those files. Click here to install it.
